Summer Bypass Valve
The summer bypass function is a ventilation passive cooling feature that allows the heat exchanger to be bypassed depending on climate.
Some mechanical ventilation units come with a summer bypass valve or passive cooling function. This really handy flap valve redirects airflow to bypass the heat exchanger and allows filtered air to come inside without any heat exchange.
Most useful around the change of season or an unseasonal hot spell. The summer bypass function comes in handy when it’s been warm all day, then a cool change comes along. Switching on the summer bypass function, you can take advantage of the natural temperature change, opening a valve to bypass the heat exchanger, removing the indoor heat and pumping in cooler air from outside. This form of ventilation passive cooling does not replace an air conditioner and is in no way ‘active’. However, your energy system benefits by being responsive to and making use of the elements, giving you more options to efficiently get the inside climate just right.
